How Umbilical Cord Blood Banking Works

Umbilical cord blood banking is actually a simple, painless process for mother and baby.  The most important part is to be sure to order a Collection Kit in advance and bring it with you to the hospital when you go into labor.  After that, your job is to focus on bringing your baby into the world, while your medical team handles the process of collecting the umbilical cord blood immediately after your baby is born.

Once your OBGYN or midwife collects your newborn’s umbilical cord blood into our FDA approved Collection Bag, you will just need to complete the paperwork and call our Client Services team for bedside packing instructions and pick-up at the hospital.

We’ll arrange to ship the kit to our laboratory in Florida and process the collection.  Our laboratory technol0gists will isolate the HSCs, test their viability, and confirm the yield of Total Nucleated Cells (TNC’s).   We’ll then cryogenically store your child’s stem cells in a liquid nitrogen tank at a temperature at or below -150oF.   Your stem cells will be safely stored and remain viable for at least 25 years and possibly indefinitely.

Historically, HSCs have only been available from bone marrow and peripheral blood transplants.  As cord […]
